Introducing the 6oz: Our Candle, Sized for Trying

You lift the lid on Campfire in Evening. Smoke, moss, clove. Then Back Porch in Early Morning. Coffee, cream, cedar. Then back to the first one. You like both. You want both. You leave with one, and keep thinking about the other.

That is a familiar moment, and a fair one. So we made a smaller candle.

What the 6oz is

The 6oz is our candle, sized down. Nothing about what goes inside it changed. It is the same 100% soy wax, poured by hand in small batches. The same wood wick, with its wide, low flame and soft crackle. The same fragrance, blended in-house oil by oil. It comes in all nine scents, in the same straight-sided matte black glass jar.

It also comes with its own wood lid, included with the jar. It works the way our lids always have. On between burns to hold the scent in. Off when you light it.

Burn time is about 30 hours. That is an estimate, and it depends on how you burn it, but it gives you a sense of scale: long enough to really get to know a scent over a few weeks of evenings.

Why our older posts say 10oz

If you have read back through this blog, you have seen us talk about "our 10oz candle" as if it were the only one. For a long time it was. It was the only size we made, so that is how we wrote about it.

The 10oz is still here. It is our flagship, the larger candle that carries the handmade red oak lid, cut and finished in our shop. The 6oz sits beside it as a smaller version of the same candle. Two sizes of one idea, not two different products.

Who it is for

We had a few people in mind when we made it.

The person trying a scent for the first time. Committing to a larger candle in a scent you have only smelled once, at a market or through a screen, can feel like a leap. The 6oz is a smaller step. Live with it for a while. See how it settles into your home. If it is the one, the flagship is waiting. If you are still deciding where to begin at all, our honest first step into the collection is a good read.

The person who wants two scents instead of one. This is the moment at the top of this post. With the 6oz, you do not have to choose between a morning scent and an evening one. You can bring home Setting Out at First Light for the start of the day and Nightcap in the Study for the end of it. We wrote about matching scents to the hours in a scent for every hour.

The smaller room. Not every space needs a large candle. A bedside table. A desk. A bathroom counter. A shelf in a small apartment. The 6oz is scaled for those places. It fills a small room without taking it over.

The easy gift. A 6oz candle is a simple thing to hand someone. It is enough to feel considered, and it lets them find out whether they love a scent before they go looking for more.

Three of them, together

The 6oz also anchors the Small Three-Candle Flight: three 6oz candles set into a small sapele tray, with recessed pockets that hold each jar flush to the wood. You choose the three scents. It is a good way to keep a morning, an afternoon, and an evening scent in one place. We wrote a separate guide to choosing a candle flight if you are weighing the options.

How we think about it

We did not make the 6oz to replace anything. We made it because a scent is personal, and the best way to know if one belongs in your home is to live with it. A smaller candle makes that easier to do.

If you are new to us, it is a good place to start. If you already have a favorite in the larger jar, it is an easy way to add a second scent for a different room or a different part of the day.

You can find the 6oz alongside the flagship in our candle collection. Choose your size on any scent page. And if you want three together, look at the Small Three-Candle Flight.
