Frequently asked questions
How are your candle lids made?
Every lid is cut and shaped by hand in our home workshop from locally sourced red oak, then finished with pure tung oil — a natural, food-safe finish that brings out the grain and protects the wood over time. The lid does double duty: it preserves the scent between burns and works as a coaster once your candle is lit. No two lids are identical, which is the point.
Why a wood wick?
Wood wicks burn differently than cotton — and intentionally so. The wide, flat flame produces a broader melt pool that carries the scent further into a room, and the soft crackling sound it makes while burning is something you don't get with a traditional wick. It's a quieter, more atmospheric burn. Wood is also the connective thread through everything we make — the wicks, the lids, the trays — so it felt like the only honest choice.
How do I take care of my candle?
The first burn matters most. Let the melt pool reach the edge of the jar before extinguishing, which can take two to three hours. This sets the memory of the wax and prevents tunneling on every burn after. Before each subsequent burn, remove any char from the wick with your fingers or a wick trimmer— wood wicks don't trim the same way cotton ones do, so don't cut them short. Keep your candle away from drafts, which wood wicks are especially sensitive to. Stop burning when about half an inch of wax remains at the bottom.
Where are your products made?
Everything is made by hand in Plainview, NY. We pour the candles in small batches and handle all the woodwork in our home shop. We don't outsource production, and we don't make anything we wouldn't keep ourselves.
Do you sell anywhere in person?
We do farmer's markets and pop-up events throughout the year — it's our favorite way to connect with customers and let people smell the collection before they buy. Follow us on Instagramor check back here for our current schedule. We don't offer local pickup outside of those events.
